im-ponere
2016

Videoperformance, 4k vertical video-projection, 03:47min, color

“im-ponere” [lat. > impose, apply] plays with the (self-) enforced situation of the artist as a continous generator of output. Chopping wood stands for the most archaic form of work, which is directly assigned to the existential striving for a warm home, cooking food, and making fire. In the video there’s no artwork visible. The wood falling down the pedestal doesn’t seem worth enough to stay any longer in the spotlight on top of the pedestal than for the moment of chopping. Nevertheless this action repeats until the “stage of production” is wrecked.
